Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Baby Grand
This 3-way design represents the heart and soul of the Grand range. Baby Grand™, like the instrument that shares its name, allows for epic concert hall performances to take place in the comfort of listening rooms of average dimension. Dynamic, open and highly musical, this 3-way design features dual 6” XPP bass drivers, a single 6” X3P midrange and 1” silk dome tweeter.
The remarkably natural and transparent midrange and tweeter drivers, coupled with two bass units, produce an outstanding balance, a homogeneity, integrating finest heights to real slam base. And that balance extends to its industrial design, where the proportions are perfectly rendered, the robust front and rear baffles balancing out the extra depth of the cabinet to confer a sense of substance and style that are far more than skin deep. Handcrafted enclosures in beautiful wood finishes define the Vienna Acoustics aesthetic. The Grand Series features the following selections to complement any interior: Piano black, Maple, Cherry, and Rosewood.
Completely new for the Beethoven Baby Grand are the Vienna Acoustics developed 6” bass/midrange Spidercone drivers, used here as ULF (or Ultra Low Frequency) drivers. Similar to the 7” reference ULF driver found in the BEETHOVEN Concert Grand, this 6” version offers extremely controlled pistonic behaviour for superb bass dynamics. This was possible due to Vienna Acoustics’ experience with their proprietary “spidercone” technology in combination with advances in material formulations of TPX and polypropylene based synthetics, allowing for maximum inner damping while the spidercone ribs provide maximum stability for bass impulses. Beethoven Baby Grand uses two of these unique drivers, resulting in a combined surface area that allows for superiour dynamics in bass reproduction, with power, speed, and detail. All bass and midrange drivers benefit from a new inverted rubber surround design and formulation that constitutes a breakthrough in no loss damping of cone edge resonances.
The new 6” midrange driver benefits from a reformulation of Vienna Acoustics’ proprietary XPP cone material. Combining TPX, the unique thermoplastic used in all XPP cones, with three polypropylene based synthetics achieves maximum inner damping, ultra-low mass, and precise control over cone density and rigidity. Dubbed X3P (X3P because of the three additional polymers in its composition) this new cone material allows the driver to provide an extraordinarily wide bandwidth, while possessing a level of inner detail, quietness, and control that is truly remarkable. All bass and midrange drivers benefit from a new inverted rubber surround design and formulation that constitutes a breakthrough in no loss damping of cone edge resonances.
The new tweeter was developed by Vienna Acoustics, in conjunction with Scan Speak, resulting in greater resolution of the subtlest of high frequency impulses while maintaining the midrange warmth and clarity for which Vienna Acoustics has been renowned.
A completely new linear crossover layout, with the copper circuit paths arranged in the direction of electron flow, takes into account the potential for sympathetic and parasitic interactions among crossover components that may inject unwanted noise and distortions while allowing for more direct and efficient transfer of signal to the drivers which leads to a greater level of detail and purity.
Cabinets boast massive baffles that are 1.6” thick, 30% thicker than previous models, for maximum rigidity and resonance control. Maple and Cherry finishes join a revised Rosewood, applied to the highest of standards using the state-of-the-art veneer-wrapping technology for the front and rear baffles first pioneered on the Classic series. A true Piano Black lacquer is now available, the quality of which will permit inclusion into any living room as it mirrors its surroundings.
