Amperex "PQ" 6922 - Super super rare gold pin 6922 with tall bottle made in 1960. In 1961 they started using a slightly shorter bottle. Still a very cool and highly sought-after tube. The "tall bottle" version is more money. Not because it's better. Because it's rare. Don't fall into this stupid bullshit that "Older and rarer is better" The very first 6922's made by Amperex had a piched waist and they're horrible quality. 90% of them are microphonic, and if they aren't now they will be in a few months. I'll write something up on this in our "Buying tips" section.

A quick note about this tube: Many of the earliest vintages of 6922 tubes were sensitive to vibration. This means that if you use them in your preamp or phonostage, they may go "TING!" when you flip switches or tap on the preamp. Understand this is normal.

We have tested every tube to our highest standards and some actually do test to our Platinum Grade standards! But... if you've got a preamp with a lot of gain... this ain't the tube for you.

Please call or email before ordering so we can determine if this tube will be a good candidate for your equipment, as some gear will be too brutal and this tube may not hold up very long.

Platinum grade - The best of the best. Lowest noise and microphony with the tightest triode balance we have available. This is typically 10% or tighter, but may be higher depending on available stock.

Gold grade - Low noise and microphonics with a triode balance typically between 15% and 20%, but may be higher depending on available stock.

Driver/Buffer grade - Lowest noise but not the lowest in microphony. Triode balance will be similar to Gold grade.
This grade is only suitable for use in the driver stage of an amplifier, or the output/buffer stage of a DAC or CD Player.

If you have a preamp or phonostage, you need at least Gold grade.
