Philips Holland "SQ" E182CC - Late 60's and early 70's vintage halo getter, made in Holland. These are first-rate and super rare. They are a popular substitute for the 5687. These tubes are on average about 50% taller than a 5687, so if you want to use them, make sure you have enough clearance. The sound? Typical of a Philips Holland tube: open, airy top end, gorgeous liquid midrange, 3-dimensional soundstage.
PLEASE NOTE: Like the 5687, this tube is NOT the lowest in microphonics. Even those we deem to meet Gold or Platinum Grade standards may still ring in sensitive circuits like a preamp, especially while flipping switches or if you tap on the preamp. This is partly due to the long plate construction, and also partly due to the fact that these tubes were not orginally manufactured for use in circuits that require low microphony operation. TAPPING ON THE TUBE TO SEE IF IT WILL RING WILL ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE. DON'T DO IT!
Box and logo may vary from picture above.
Platinum grade - The best of the best. Lowest noise and microphony with the tightest triode balance we have available. This is typically 10% or tighter, but may be higher depending on available stock.
Gold grade - Low noise and microphonics with a triode balance typically between 15% and 20%, but may be higher depending on available stock.
Driver/Buffer grade - Lowest noise but not the lowest in microphony. Triode balance will be similar to Gold grade.
This grade is only suitable for use in the driver stage of an amplifier, or the output/buffer stage of a DAC or CD Player.
If you have a preamp or phonostage, you need at least Gold grade.
