Tung-Sol KT120

Product Description

Tung-Sol KT120 - Super cool KT88 variant made by New Sensor in Russia. This tube is a drop-in replacement for KT88s... no special re-wiring required! The KT120 is rated to have a plate dissipation of 60W... compared with the 35W of the 6550, the 42W of the KT88, that's a lot of juice!

The KT120 also draws more filament current from your amp's output transformer(s).  Before you buy them, check with your amp's manufacturer to make sure you've got enough headroom.

One quick note: The KT120 is about 1/2" taller than a typical KT88, so if your KT88s are already a tight squeeze in your equipment, you may want to measure to make sure you have enough clearance before placing an order.

Pricing above includes matching in any quantity you need at no extra charge.

All power tubes are Platinum Screened & Tested to the highest standards, including a 72-hour burn in process, and testing at real-world voltages.

  1. KT 120 vs 6550

Posted by Luigi on 11th Mar 2015

With this tube I have got all what I was looking for: more dynamic, more extention in low and high frequences better spatial localization and a great musicality .Very Happy You must try it

  2. awesome tube!!

Replaced sovtek KT88's with these tubes,no comparison , better in every way in my opinion

  3. 120 tube review

Posted by Unknown on 30th Jan 2015

Had only in dialog 2 for 2 weeks. First thing I noticed was the low end punch it did not have with the stock Primaluna Kt88 tubes. My speakers are Maggie 1.7s and the Sound Field around them is larger with these new tubes

  4. Replaced EL34s with KT120s in Dialogue II

Posted by Collin J on 6th Jan 2015

The EL34s were really sweet sounding in the Dialogue II, especially for female vocals and strings. I try to listen in triode mode most of the time to smooth things out. However, with recordings that have a higher dynamics range, I find myself switching over to ultra linear mode for more punch, at the cost of some headache inducing brightness. The KT120s solves that problem because I can pretty much leave it in triode mode 90% of the time. I'm only 50 hours or so into break in, and it's opening up quite nicely like a glass of great Cabernet.

  5. Sounded like a new rig!!!

Posted by Steve R on 27th Dec 2014

I put a quartet of these cyro-treated tubes into my PrimaLuna Prologue 2 to replace a several-year-old set of Primaluna issued KT88s. I could not believe the improvement. There was a richer overall sound spectrum with a bigger but not overbearing bottom, richer mids, and more transparent highs. I played a range of well-recorded CDs through a Musical Fidelity DAC and wow. It made my speakers, Opera 5s, just fill the room with a larger and more engaging sound stage. I even rolled back my REL sub a bit. We're not talking about spending 1000s here on a new power amp, but $250! Most of the additions and tweaks to my rig make modest improvements. I'd say that these tubes and the modded DAC prompted the biggest jumps of all the gear. They really surpassed my expectations--and GUYS--even my girlfriend noticed it and liked it!

  6. PrimaLuna Dialogue One integrated

Posted by Scott W on 10th Nov 2014

Plopped these in and, oh, it's quite the scene man. If you too own a PL product, what are you waiting for?

  7. More QUALITY juice from my PrimaLuna 3&5 Prologue combi.

    Posted by Rens51 on 27th Mar 2014

I wrote a review also for the Philips 5R4GYS Made in Holland rectifier tubes that I replaced at the same time. These KT120 bring me more power and authority over my PL KT-88's, to my low sensitivity ProAc Response 2,5S speakers. The KT-88's were also about end-of-life. Have now ±100 hours playtime on the set, and overall a noticeable quality step-up!! The jury is still out how / if this will further improve, so 4 stars. For more experience see my write-up with the Philips 5R4GYS's. Reason to buy from Upscale audio (and import to Holland at a cost) was their testing and cryogenic treatment option. Very happy also with the customer services and related communications thru the site. Thanks to Kevin and Team!!

  8. Steroids for Cary SLi80

Posted by Frank Hardly on 20th Dec 2013

I had some nice Gold Lion KT88's in my Cary, but these tubes juice up the performance to a whole new level. Increase in bass and dynamics and a lift in sound stage depth. Altogether a great upgrade for an already fantastic amp. Not the sort of thing one can play around with in the solid state world.

  9. KT 120s replaced in PrimaLuna ProLogue Seven Monoblocks

    Posted by T. G. Titus on 27th Nov 2013

I found it interesting that Conrad Johnson and Audio Research are migrating to KT 120 based amps, and since the 120s are a simple drop-in in PrimaLuna amps I thought I’d give them a try.
The most noticeable improvement is in the low end and it ain’t subtle. The bass is noticeably stronger, weightier, and more authoritative. The Telarc bass drum whacks are scary good. Even lightly struck bass drums and double basses are more prominent. Other users have reported the same effect. I must admit that I’m not sure of improvements in other areas. PrimaLuna’s stock KT 88s are awfully good. Lastly, the 120s are dead quiet.

  10. Makes my amp purr

Posted by James C on 3rd Oct 2013

These valves replaced the stock KT88s in a Prima Luna Dialogue premium, driving Focal 1008 Be speakers. I loved the KT88s, but the 120's just deliver more authority and punch. I tried the Prima Luna EL34s, which felt thin and weedy, and didnt stay in the amp for very long at all. These tubes have turned the best amp/speaker combo I have ever owned into something even better. Fantastic. As an added bonus they appear to be the same tubes that Prima Luna brand as their own and sell for about twice the price here in Australia. What is there not to like about that.
