Product Description

Telefunken PCC88/7DJ8 - This is a 7 volt version of the super-expensive, impossible to find 6DJ8. Smooth highs that maintain extension without being bright, with great detail and texture in the mids.

7DJ8/PCC88 are a great choice.  They are absolutely compatible with virtually any product that uses 6922 and 6DJ8   Whether it's an amp, preamp, CD player, whatever.   You still need to pick a good one of course.  And one that meets your sonic requiremements.  And Upscale Audio doesn't sell any sucky ones.  But understand this:  You are in essence getting tasty stuff for half what you would pay if they were labeled 6DJ8 instead of 7DJ8.  They will operate the same.  Trust Uncle Kevvy on this one.

Made in West Germany for Telefunken by Siemens. These come in original boxes, and test beautifully. Most all of them have tested low in microphony, so we do not have any Driver grade at the moment.

Platinum grade - The best of the best. Lowest noise and microphony with the tightest triode balance we have available. This is typically 10% or tighter, but may be higher depending on available stock.

Gold grade - Low noise and microphonics with a triode balance typically between 15% and 20%, but may be higher depending on available stock.

  1. Fantastic Value

Bought a quad set of these with the cryo treatment and they sound incredible in my Manley Chinook. Using the gold pin Mullard 12AT7s in my Manley Shrimp and I have really discovered a great combo. I would recommend these highly and Upscale has them for a steal of a price.

  2. Hmmm...

The energy distribution provided by this device is fascinating. Almost Wagner-ian in stature, it can still maintain a feathery presentation of the innermost detail associated with massed voices. Yet the shimmer of cymbals and tubular bells retain their mechanical origination with oodles of natural decay. The tube demands sophisticated capacitors and yields excellent results in a worthy circuit and system.

  3. Best of Both Worlds

I'm now using these in my Fosgate Signature phonostage. Of all the tubes I've tried I'm the most content with these. Amperex USA 6922 PQ's have an almost surreal velvety smooth texture but seem to roll off the highs a bit much for me with some loss of resolution, and now that I've switched to a moving coil cartridge won't work because of high microphony. The generic Chinese tubes the Fosgate came with have high resolution but are a bit harsh by comparison. Two brands of NOS Russian 6H23 fall somewhere between the Amperex and Chinese tubes, but don't shine with resolution or smoothness, although they are very good tubes. These Telefunken's have the best of both worlds, smooth with high resolution. Sometimes I'd swap the tubes just for a change of pace, but I think these will stay there for quite a while.

  4. A really pleasant surprise

Posted by Joe Appierto on 24th Aug 2011

I’ve installed the Telefunken 7DJ8 and I’ve been nothing but pleased. It replaced an Amperex 7308 (a perennial favorite of mine) as the driver in my conrad-johnson Premier 140 power amp. Right out of the box, I find it to be clear, resolving, with excellent extension. The soundstage is even deeper than the Amperex and the bass feels more tightly controlled while the highs definitely have more pep and sparkle without a trace of listening fatigue. Very much the classic Telefunken sound that is highly sought and I now see why. A real winner and an easy tube to recommend.

I put 8 of these in an ARC LS22 and 4 into 2 ARC VT150s. I couldn''t be happier. Wonderful timbre and instrumental/vocal texture. No more top end edge. My speakers are Acoustat Spectra 22s, and the soundstage is holographic and natural with these tubes. These tubes are a steal, considering that, to better them, you''d probably be spending $200 - $300 per tube. If you are looking for a tube in this tube family, you probably won''t go wrong buying these. Thanks guys!

  6. Fast and powerful

Posted by Robert H. Levi on 30th Jun 2011

This Tele is the polar opposite of the tame and liquid Mullards. Most powerful, fast, ultra quiet, loaded with definition and extra depth, it''s sophistication is apparent with a total lack of etch or edge. Will wake up a sleepy tube amp, speed up a slow preamp or rich sounding speakers. A steal at the price here. Use half of these with half of the Mullards for a sonic cocktail surprise! WOW. Mixing 6922s and 7DJ8s and PCC88s work fine in all gear I tried.

Started harsh and nasty in my Conrad-Johnson ls17 then turned the corner into something great about four hours. Much more punch and speed from top to bass. my cj had been boring, no longer. i agree with the other reviews....also put on some ayre myrtle blocks which may have aded some sweetness. Both have been nice improvement for this conrad johnson owner. Thanks Jared....
