Product Description

Philips PCC88/7DJ8 - 7DJ8/PCC88 are a great choice.  They are absolutely compatible with virtually any product that uses 6922 and 6DJ8   Whether it's an amp, preamp, CD player, whatever.   You still need to pick a good one of course.  And one that meets your sonic requiremements.  And Upscale Audio doesn't sell any sucky ones.  But understand this:  You are in essence getting tasty stuff for half what you would pay if they were labeled 6DJ8 instead of 7DJ8.  They will operate the same.  Trust Uncle Kevvy on this one.

This is a 7 volt version of the super-expensive, impossible to find Philips 6DJ8. We've been searching far and wide for other alternatives to the 6DJ8 tubes that sounds great and lasts and this one rocks.

This tube has Philips Holland parts, and the associated sound.  They were assembled in the Ei factory according to the small etched codes on the glass.  They test beautifully, and of the ones we have sent out to my knowledge we have had zero defects.  The sound is smooth and balanced.  Not as edgy as an Amperex Bugle Boy which shares the same guts. The midrange is very pretty.

So here's an opportunity to try something super sexy and exotic without breaking the bank. These come in original Philips boxes. Don't smoke crack and lose out on these opportunities.  I busted my ass staying up till all hours of the night to track these down in Europe.  It's a major coup and I want you to name your first child or grandchild after me.  Okay.....maybe it's not quite THAT important, but you get my meaning.  .

Platinum grade - The best of the best. Lowest noise and microphony with the tightest triode balance we have available. This is typically 10% or tighter, but may be higher depending on available stock.

Gold grade - Low noise and microphonics with a triode balance typically between 15% and 20%, but may be higher depending on available stock.

    Posted by Robert H. Levi

Almost a Mullard 6922 in EAR gear for a quarter of the price!!! 90% of the performance of the best I know in NOS tubes at only $20!!! Kevin did it again! He has a true winner here for tube rollers of distinction. The Philips uses Mullard construction and work parts...thats why they are so close. Buy them now before the price goes up. Very detailed and realistic. Even sounding from top to rock bottom. Smooth and controlled. Sophiticated and mellifluous. Mids with gorgeous detail and in the room sonics and imaging. Very quiet with black black backgrounds. You want to spend $100, buy the Mullard. Otherwise, buy 5 Philips PCC88s!!!!! What a grand deal for audiophiles! Well done Kevin! You are the man!!!!

CRYOGENICALLY TREATED VACUUM TUBES. DONE TO UPSCALE AUDIO STANDARDS!

cryotubessmall.jpgMost of you already know that Upscale Audio is the premier destination for expertise and availability of vacuum tubes for high-end audio equipment. So when we offer servies and options, you can be guaranteed that it represents a significant investment of research and capital, and that the end result will greatly enhance your listening experience.

Upscale has contracted with the foremost company involved in this technology, 300 Below, to treat our most popular tubes.  Other tubes will be added as time allows, but it is a time consuming proccess.  Our intention is to have most stocks Cryogenically treated before we even test them.

Of course, your first question is – and should be – why?  In a nutshell, reducing an object’s temperature to -300ºF re-arranges its molecular structure, creating greater uniformity that results in longer life and better performance than when the product was initially designed. With vacuum tubes, this process has a profound impact on a tube’s ability to endure thermal shock. Therefore, tubes can last longer and their sound can been enhanced in ways that are simply exquisite.

After thoughtful and thorough research, Upscale Audio chose 300 Below because of their extensive experience in working with musical instruments as well as auto racing, metal tooling, and high-end sporting goods from rifle barrels to golf clubs.  Expect nothing but the best from Upscale Audio.

Our charge for Cryogenically treating tubes is a fraction of what others charge, though we use the premier company.  Count on Upscale to do the best job and not price gouge .  Also available is cryogenic treatment for cables, along with our well-known Nordost Vidar cable treatment system.  Call for details. Pricing is listed on each tube and cable page.
