Gold Lion ECC83 / 12AX7 - Let's face it... NOS 12AX7's are getting scarce. When that happens, the price goes up. The good news? The quality of current production 12AX7's is getting better and better. The latest Russian re-issue is a perfect example. These Gold Lion 12AX7 re-issues sound incredible: A full, glorious midrange with great texture and liquid detail, extended yet controlled highs, tight bass.

Very quiet and low in microphonics. Due to the larger plate structure, if you're the kind of guy who likes to thwack their tubes with their fingernails... these will likely reward you with a loud "PING!" through the speakers. The solution? Don't thwack them with your fingernails!

These tubes tested extremely low in noise and microphonics across the board, so we do not have any Driver Grade.

Platinum grade - The best of the best. Lowest noise and microphony with the tightest triode balance we have available. This is typically 10% or tighter, but may be higher depending on available stock.

Gold grade - Low noise and microphonics with a triode balance typically between 15% and 20%, but may be higher depending on available stock.

Really surprising

I use this tube in guitar amps and find it to be quite exceptional. It is very dynamic and has wonderful extension in both bass and treble. Harmonics are abundant and notes bloom in a most appropriate manner. Can't say enough good things and it's quiet as well. It's about time we got an alternative to NOS.

I know I have already submitted a review on this tube. I have now about 100 hrs on this tube. I am using a prologue 2 . This is by far the best tube I have ever used. It is smooth and wide. the sound stage is deep. there is no loss of detail. the mid band and voicing is placed very nice not to forward and not to laid back. the bass is articulate and tight with impact. I am very very happy. I have many NOS tubes including mullard and tungsram, amperex, ei and etc, and this gold lion does the job and sounds better in my rig than the above. I have dealt with Kevin and Jared for a long time and the reason is they give great advice and service, it's that easy.
Hands down best production tube so far !

I own many tubes a lot of nos and also tried almost every new production tube out there. These are the cats meow. Most new production tubes do a lot of things right but this does them all, Wonderful 3D sound stage great depth smooth mid band, great separation nice detailed highs and a tight controlled bass. The best of all is the balance top to bottom. I am so happy they finally hit the mark with these tubes. They sound fantastic in mt prolgue2 with the rt 1956 12au7's and the GL kt-88's . just awesome....

The quality of current production power tubes has been going up steadily for about 10 years. Some offerings like the Tungsol 6550,5881, Mullard EL34 and Genlex KT66 AND KT77 are worthy of their original predecessors but there hasnt been much movement up on the input side of the system-at least not sound wise. Input tubes have become more reliable and operate quieter than the pathetic, Russian and Chinese surplus - junk of the early 90's, so I guess I should be thankful at least for that. This ECC83 tube is a very welcome upgrade in sound quality, "tone" or "timbre" or whatever word you like. Really the only and best thing i can tell you about them is that, in them, i have finally found a reliable and (relatively) cost effective replacement for my B9F type Mullard Long Plates, and Im not exaggerating. Try some out. At this price you cant really get burned and since their brand spankin new, if you dont like them, sell them on ebay.Now we just need a hi grade new production EL84.

Warranty Information

Vacuum tubes are warranted for 90 days against defects, except in cases of abuse, and replaced with like-item only.

Tubes being sent in for warranty must have a return authorization number from Upscale Audio. This RA number must be written on the outside of the box. Please also include a note in the box that has your name and telephone number, and please explain the issues with the tube. If this information is missing it will delay the shipment of your replacement tube.
Vacuum tubes being sent to Upscale Audio for warranty replacement must be shipped in a box with appropriate packaging to keep them from being damaged. Vacuum tubes returned to Upscale Audio using inadequate packing will have a voided warranty and will be refused at the customer's expense.

Exceptions to our warranty policy are as follows:

Upscale Audio reserves the right to refuse warranty at our disgretion based on the equipment being re-tubed. You will be notified of any change prior to your order being processed.
Using a tube in an application in which it was not meant to be used. If your amp calls for a 6550, and you decide you want to plug in a 6V6GT, Upscale Audio is not liable if the tube fails, and will not honor any warranty in such a situation.

Upscale Audio is not liable for any damage or injury caused by the improper use of its tubes or the use of an incorrect/incompatible tube type. If you are unsure of what tube or tubes your equipment uses, consult the manufacturer before making a purchase. Using an incompatible tube type may cause severe damage to your equipment and will void your tube's warranty.
