Hytron 6V6GTY

Product Description

Hytron 6V6GTY - 1950's Military stock made in U.S.A. I actually found these on a tube hunting trip to Europe a few years back, but never got around to testing them. Then in 2002 we had to evacuate for the fire, and these got lost down at the warehouse. Recently my guys re-organized everything and brought these up... and now we have them up here for you. We don't have very many, and I anticipate they will sell quickly. The "GTY" designation meant this tube was designed to handle higher plate and screen voltages than a typical 6V6GT. We don't have amps here that run 'em super hard, but folks on the Net mention these as being pretty sturdy tubes.

Pricing above includes matching in any quantity you need at no extra charge.

All power tubes are Platinum Screened & Tested to the highest standards, including a 72-hour burn in process, and testing at real-world voltages.

  1. Nice Pair!

Just installed a pair in a Super Champ XD that I use as a rehearsal amp.
It makes the amp sound like a hand-wired boutique amp through the Eminence Copperhead I upgraded to.
If the amp ever dies, these tubes will stay and I will find a new home for them.

  2. Really woke my vintage amp up!

I installed a matched pair of these tubes into a vintage Gibson GA-19RVT Falcon. Before the install the amp was very quiet, it wouldn't overdrive; I wasn't sure what was wrong. I purchased a matched pair of these tubes and the amp has a nice sparkly cleans, and nice warm break-up starting at about 7. I will definitely be back to buy a stockpile of these, because they're great and at a fair price.

Excellent tube. uses it on my power amp making a better difference. lot more bass, clearer mid and high than gold lion 6v6gt/cv511

  4. You need a pair of these

Another excellent tube from Upscale, this one is a bit different than the Pope 6V6. The Pope is a very traditional 6V6 from my experience and has all of the best characteristics of the breed wrapped up in a very rich and classy way. Ths Hytron is a GTY and as such it has a little more range dynamically but is not quite as smooth. I would highly recomend them to someone thave values punch over the last bit of inner detail. Both are excellent but the hytron is a bit more agressive and not quite so delicate. Good extension on both ends and a smooth midband makes it a good fit for guitar amps if the rest of the tubes are of equal quality.

  5. Most Under-appreciated tube ever produced

Posted by Solerso on 30th Jun 2011

The title of the review pretty much states the whole argument. This tube is virtually identical to the clear glass CBS Hytron with the sleek black plates, that I buy whenever I see them. Hytron Tubes were overbuilt built just like Amperex tubes- litterally,to survive a Nuclear Blast. In the 60's Hytron also produced a 5992 which are much rarer, and IMHO, better than the Bendix "Red bank" version that so many line up to pay too much for. Hytron also built many tubes that were branded for Tungsol. They're not only magnificently built, the sound of these babies in agood amplifier is exquisite-Think miniature RCA 6L6GC black-plate. When New Sensor (Electroharmonix) came out with the only genuine New Production 6V6GT available 9 years ago , the 6V6EH, it was the Hytron design they copied. As for NOS tubes, the Only 6V6's i pay money for are the Hytron or Phillips types.
